What is ANSYS Fluent

The industrial CFD standard — now with English support in Ukraine

ANSYS Fluent is a general-purpose CFD solver based on the Finite Volume Method. Since its introduction in 1983, it has set the standard for industrial fluid simulation — from subsonic aerodynamics to supersonic compressors, from laminar pipe flow to turbulent combustion with detailed chemistry. Its breadth of physics models, automatic polyhedral meshing, and native GPU acceleration make it the solver of first choice for most engineering CFD tasks.

CADFEM Ukraine — the sole authorized ANSYS Channel Partner in Ukraine — provides official Fluent licenses, English-speaking CFD training, simulation consulting, and HPC deployment services. Whether you are an international company based in Ukraine, a Ukrainian engineering exporter, or a defense contractor requiring CFD reports in English, we are your local ANSYS partner.

</>
Finite Volume Method — conservative by design
Fluent's FVM discretization satisfies conservation of mass, momentum, and energy locally in every cell — the foundation of physically reliable CFD results. Polyhedral meshing with Fluent Meshing reduces cell count by 3–5× vs tetrahedral while maintaining accuracy.
</>
100+ physical models
All turbulence models (k-ω SST, RSM, LES, DES), multiphase (VOF, Eulerian, Mixture), combustion (Species Transport, EDC, PDF with Chemkin-PRO), radiation (DO, P1), acoustics (FW-H), and cavitation — in a single license.
</>
Native GPU acceleration
ANSYS Fluent provides native GPU acceleration (NVIDIA CUDA) with up to 10× speedup over CPU for turbulence-resolved simulations. Scales linearly on HPC clusters to thousands of cores via MPI.
</>
Full ANSYS Workbench multiphysics
Two-way FSI with ANSYS Mechanical, EM-thermal coupling with Maxwell (Joule heating → Fluent), and electronics cooling with Icepak — all managed in one ANSYS Workbench project schematic.

+38 (050) 454-37-54
What is ANSYS Fluent and what makes it the leading CFD solver?
+
ANSYS Fluent is the world's most widely used CFD software, based on the Finite Volume Method (FVM). Since 1983, it has been the industry standard for aerodynamics, turbomachinery, combustion, multiphase flow, and heat transfer simulation. Fluent is used by Boeing, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Shell, Siemens, and thousands of engineering companies globally. Key differentiators: the most comprehensive physics model library (100+), automatic polyhedral meshing that reduces cell count by 3–5×, native GPU acceleration, and full ANSYS Workbench multiphysics integration. CADFEM Ukraine provides official Fluent licenses and English-speaking CFD support in Ukraine.
What is the difference between ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS CFX?
+
Both are ANSYS CFD solvers and are typically licensed together in the CFD packages. Fluent: FVM-based, more versatile — better for combustion (detailed chemistry), free-surface multiphase (VOF), external aerodynamics, and GPU acceleration. CFX: hybrid FEM-FVM, better for turbomachinery — optimized MFR/Stage interfaces for axial and centrifugal machines. For most applications, both are available in your license; choose based on the specific physics.
What turbulence model should I use in ANSYS Fluent?
+
For most industrial applications: k-ω SST — the gold standard for external aerodynamics (wings, UAVs, vehicles) and internal flows with adverse pressure gradients. For internal pipe flow and heat exchangers: k-ε Realizable. For aeroacoustics and highly unsteady vortex dynamics: DES or LES (scale-resolving, requires finer mesh and more compute). Avoid k-ε Standard for cases with flow separation — it overpredicts turbulence in the separated region.
How does ANSYS Fluent handle two-way FSI with ANSYS Mechanical?
+
In ANSYS Workbench, a System Coupling component connects Fluent and Mechanical: Fluent computes pressure and heat flux on the fluid-structure interface; Mechanical computes structural deformations; the deformed geometry updates the Fluent mesh at every coupling step. One-way FSI (pressure from Fluent as static load in Mechanical) is simpler and sufficient when structural deflections do not significantly change the flow. Two-way FSI is needed for aeroelasticity, flutter, and flexible components like membranes or fan blades.
What is Fluent Meshing and why is polyhedral meshing important?
+
Fluent Meshing is the automatic mesh generation tool built into ANSYS Fluent. Its key technology — polyhedral meshing — converts a tetrahedral surface mesh into polyhedral volume cells automatically. Result: 3–5× fewer cells than a tetrahedral mesh for the same spatial resolution, which directly reduces RAM requirements and solver run time. Polyhedral cells also have better orthogonality, which improves numerical accuracy and convergence. For industrial-scale models, this difference can save days of compute time.
Does CADFEM Ukraine provide ANSYS Fluent engineering support in English?
+
Yes. CADFEM Ukraine's CFD team operates entirely in English as well as Ukrainian, making us the preferred Fluent partner for international companies, Ukrainian exporters of engineering services, and organizations submitting CFD reports to international clients. We offer English-language license procurement, technical support, training, and CFD consulting with English deliverables.
